Who Buys Used Golf Balls?
Buying second hand golf clubs and used golf balls is worth considering if you want to save some money on your golf equipment. In this article we will be just discussing the facts and grades of Used Golf Balls. Used golf balls can also be called recycled golf balls or recovered balls.
There are in fact several sources and methods of buying or finding used golf balls. When I was younger I would go down to my local golf course to find golf balls. The first 5 years that I played golf, I wouldn’t buy new balls; I found them by searching in the rough or fishing them out of the river.
Of course, you never know what class of golf ball you will find when looking for lost golf balls. For the beginner golfer, you might play with any condition and any brand of golf ball. What I would do is to collect as many lost balls as possible and then go home to classify them.
Probably the best option is to buy used golf balls from professional used golf ball sellers either online or offline. You will find many companies that are specialists in selling used golf balls; these companies will carefully wash them and then grade them which makes it easier to select the right ball at the right price.
It is important to find the right golf ball for your game, even if the right ball costs over $25 or even $40. Even if the right ball for you is quite expensive, if you buy used golf balls, you can save an average of 50% off the price of a new ball.
Grades of Golf Ball
Mint Condition Golf Balls – Mint balls are almost like brand new ones. A mint ball is rated nearly the same as a un-played golf ball. They will play and look like brand new balls and are good choices for the golfer that wants to save some money and yet play with an excellent quality golf ball. A mint ball is sometimes rated as a Grade 1 or a 5A ball.
Near Mint Golf Balls or Near Perfect – The second grade is also a very good option for the majority of recreational golfers. You may be able to see that these balls have been played a little bit more than the mint ones yet they are still extremely playable and will show only very minor abrasions or scuffs. Near Mint balls are also known as 4A or Grade 2 balls.
Very Good Condition Golf Balls – Although still playable, these balls will have less shine and show fading of the surface clear coat. They may also have scuffs and blemishes but they are good enough for the beginner or high handicap golfer that loses a lot of balls. These balls are also known as 3A or Grade 3 golf balls.
Practice Balls – The last grade is called practice or shag balls. These are cheap used golf balls that are cheap in price and quality; they will show much wear such as scuffs, strike marks, and major abrasions. They are sometimes called AA or 2A golf balls.
Every company may have a slightly different grading system but if you start from the top grade to the fourth grade, they will be similar to the descriptions above. Buying used golf balls or Recycled Golf Balls makes a lot of sense when you realize that they are carefully graded by professional companies.
